The Elysian The Elysian

More from Saint-Gobain Weber

The Elysian apartment development in Cork is the highest building in Ireland and one of Europe’s most attractive residential developments. Designed to contribute to the new style of central Cork, the Elysian development has created over 200 apartments as well as an iconic city location with numerous restaurants, high class shopping venues, leisure facilities and remarkable podium gardens. The Elysian has already been voted the Irish Residential Property of the Year.

Developed by O’Flynn Construction, one of Ireland’s premier developers and built by P.J Hegarty & Son, the development features the weber.therm external wall insulation (EWI) system to give the building high thermal performance with an attractive, low maintenance finish. weber.therm XM is a lightweight EWI system incorporating polymer render and meshcloth reinforcement. Above 18 metres high, the weber.therm XL EWI system has been used where the meshcloth is replaced by a metal lath render reinforcement system.

This “warm wall” system offers rapid construction and striking visual appeal. weber.therm renders also have high water shedding properties to protect the fabric of the building. The weber.therm EWI system was the first external wall insulation render system to hold IAB, Irish Agrement Board (now the National Standards Authority Ireland), approval which conforms to a 60-year design life.

The high-rise features of the Elysian apartments design – at 17 storeys the iconic tower is an attractive view-point across Cork – required the weber.therm system to meet target U-values. The insulated render system comprised 120mm EPS board to achieve U-value of 0.25W/m2K with the weber.therm render then applied applied to it. The final finish surface was achieved using weber.rend PTS and an attractive scraped finish. Weber approved application specialist, POL Construct, installed the 9000m2 of the external wall insulation for the Elysian building.
