A 46-year old man has been evicted for letting an anti-social gang which terrorised residents operate from his Nexus Housing property.
Gang member Robert Perkins, who lived in St Paul’s Street,
Worcester, was evicted following a series of incidents including
verbal abuse, threatening behaviour and drug use at the
property.
Nexus Housing secured the eviction against Robert Perkins following
a hearing at Worcester County Court. The housing provider also
secured six injunctions stopping Robert Perkins and five of his
visitors returning to the property or its grounds.
This case follows months of problems for Mr Perkins’ neighbours. Incidents of anti-social behaviour were reported on a daily basis between June and November 2009. These ranged from drug-related fights in the communal areas, with allegations of a knife being used, to drug overdoses and threats made to neighbours and Nexus Housing staff.
Despite warnings and advice to stop the behaviour, it continued and Nexus, supported by neighbours, served notice on the tenancy. The eviction was sought as a last resort after Mr Perkins dropped out of support sessions provided by Nexus Housing in partnership with local support agencies.
Catherine Birkby, assistant director at Nexus, said: “We would like to thank all the residents who have helped us secure this result. It demonstrates the strength of the residents’ commitment to working with Nexus and other community partners to promoting a safe community.
“We take anti-social behaviour seriously and will not allow the actions of one or two individuals to have a negative impact on other residents’ quality of life. This case demonstrates commitment between Nexus and our partners to preserve the right of residents to enjoy their homes in peace.”
Sgt John Lawrence, of South Worcestershire police, said: "Local
Policing Officer, PC Treagus, and his Local Policing Team have been
working closely with Nexus Housing since it took over as landlord
of the property.
"This news is a great example of how police and housing association
partnership work can improve the quality of life of law abiding
citizens and deal with residents who persist in anti-social
behaviour with no concern for their neighbours."
Nexus Housing residents affected by anti-social behaviour should call 0845 604 1453 out of hours or 01905 342600 during office hours.
