A multi agency clean up week in Preston has been hailed a success.

Agencies from across the city joined residents to tidy up an estate in Ribbleton and identify issues, which matter to them most.

Highlights from the week included:-

o Carried out some Smart Watering of household items.
o Took action against a dangerous dog that was causing problems

• In addition they litter picked some of the Gateway gardens and the grassed areas.

• Removed four loads of litter bags from this area and also removed hedge cuttings from work done by the other partners.

• Community Payback

Six Offenders working on Unpaid Work:

Day 1 litter picking - removing rubbish e.g. doors etc. cutting back vegetation, general ground work, clearing hedge cuttings after clipping.

Five Offenders :

Day 2: painting fences - general clearance work, clearing hedge cuttings

• Lancashire Fire and Rescue

Gave residents information about smoke alarms and fire safety, fire safety checks carried out at properties.

Ribble Valley Church & Volunteers

• More than 10 hours of work on 2 gardens as well as a back alley.
• Work involved intense litter picking, rubbish removal and hedge cutting.

• Met local residents and children, and made great steps to helping them take pride in their gardens and local community.

• Community Gateway Association

o Community Assistants helped residents clean gardens and hedges helped a new resident clean a huge tree from his garden so he could look to create new flowerbeds.

This approach created a great community spirit and residents joined in with all of the groups involved and discussed how this work can continue after the week had finished.
