13 New Recruits Join the Opening Doors Project
Community Gateway Association (CGA) have bought all of its worklessness activities under a new enterprise called “Opening Doors”
13 new recruits joined the Opening Doors team and started their journey back into work, with the support from partners Arena Futures and Preston Employment Partnership; this team will start on a fencing project in the east of the city. 9 of the team live in one of CGA’s 6000 properties across Preston
We are working successfully on other projects to support the strategy:-
• Our construction partners have given a number of training/apprenticeship places to people on our estates.
• We have set up three projects with other companies who are going to be completing work in our properties and neighbourhoods. These projects will take on trainees and staff from our estates to do the work like painting, fencing and repairing empty properties.
• We are establishing a community hub to provide facilities for community groups and social enterprises.
• We also provide a route to a qualification for people who work in the community voluntarily through the Chartered Institute of Housing’s Active Learning for Residents programme.
As part of this new initiative, we have asked the team to keep a
diary of how they are doing through the training. These
“blogs” will be published on the CGA website.
