West North West Homes Leeds’ (WNWHL) very own energy
superhero ‘Thermo’ visited Burley residents today
(Wednesday 17th Feb) after helping the community cut their fuel
bills.
The social housing organisation has fitted thermo insulation,
double glazing and state-of-the-art Rockwool cladding to 70 homes
in the Burley area of Leeds, in partnership with Frank Haslam
Milan, as part of the Government’s Decent Homes regeneration
programme.
On Wednesday 17th February Frank Haslam Milan and WNWHL invited
Burley residents to Queens Wood Social Club to find out exactly how
much money they have saved on their fuel bills as a result of the
project.
Tenants also received energy saving tips and advice from superhero
‘Thermo’, who is part of Leeds City Council’s
Fuelsavers Team, to help them save money during the
recession.
Project manager at WNWHL Stuart Roberts said residents had reported
a huge improvement in the energy efficiency of their homes.
“The improvements have not only reduced tenants’ fuel
bills at a time when everyone is being required to cut back on
spending, but have also improved the home life of our residents who
have been warm and cosy during one of the coldest winters in
decades.”
More work is still to be carried out in Burley with a further 40
properties on the Woodbridge estate in line to receive insulation
works.
Darren Kemp, Contracts Manager at FHM said “We have been
carrying out energy efficiency improvements on non-traditionally
constructed homes for many years now and the steel-framed 5M
properties on the Woodbridge really benefit from having these
environmental improvements. Residents have told us their homes are
warmer and their energy bills lower so it’ll be very
interesting to find out exactly how much both they and the
environment have benefited”.
