More from Moat

Moat is committed to making a real difference to the lives of older people by providing a wide range of sheltered and independent living accommodation suitable for residents with a variety of abilities and housing needs. In Maldon (and throughout Essex, Kent and Sussex) Moat has a range of properties available right now. The requirements are that interested applicants are aged over 55, ready to move within two weeks of being made an offer and are able to pay the first week’s rent. Please also note that if an applicant has the financial means to access home ownership they will not be eligible. If you think you’re in a situation to benefit from a Moat home for affordable rent, get in touch now!

Chas Melvin took Moat up on the offer when he moved into his studio apartment in January 2010. In March 2008 he was made redundant and found himself in an entirely unexpected situation. His three bedroom house in Ashford, Kent was repossessed and he had to move into a caravan he owned on East Mersea Island in Essex. He asked Colchester Borough Council for advice - having never been in this situation before, he had no idea what his next move should be.

The Council were very helpful and helped him access the Gateway to Homechoice website where he found he was eligible for a rented home. As he searched through the available homes for rent, he saw that many of the properties were managed by Moat and he applied for one. Within two weeks of being accepted, in January 2010, Chas moved into his studio apartment in Maldon, Essex. He loves his comfortable, clean home surrounded by good neighbours.

Chas says; ““Getting this home means everything. To all intents and purposes I was homeless, I’m lucky I had family to turn to, many people don’t. I never dreamed that I’d find myself in this situation and I’m so grateful that Moat and Colchester Borough Council helped me back into my own home! All I can say to others in similar situations is ask for help, there are safe, comfortable, affordable homes available for you.””
