Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) is taking positive steps to create new jobs with the help of the government's Future Jobs Fund scheme.
The Future Jobs Fund scheme is providing around £1 billion to employers across the UK to support the creation of jobs for young people who have been unemployed for six months, and others who face significant disadvantages in the labour market.
Since the end of last year, NCHA has successfully recruited 10 new members of staff through the scheme's six month contract placements. New recruits have joined the Housing and Maintenance departments, including a Tenant Training Administrator who will be encouraging NCHA tenants to attend DIY classes to enhance their skills and quality of life. Posts have also been created in NCHA's Housing with Care and Support department to organise health, environmental awareness and arts events for service users.
Future Job Fund employees will benefit from training related to their job, and will also be able to access NCHA's company training programme to increase their skills, confidence and future employability.
NCHA's Training Manager, Richard Burke commented:
"We've created additional jobs to give people real work experience
as well as interesting and challenging work. The jobs will create
added value as the work they'll be doing will benefit our tenants,
service users and communities."
NCHA is looking to secure a further 17 posts through the Future Jobs Fund scheme, running from April 2010 until March 2011.
