On Monday 25 January, local residents and staff from Moat and Maldon District Council met at the Moat office on Holloway Road in Maldon, Essex and walked along the Heybridge Canal, collecting litter. In total they collected 50 sacks of rubbish!

The event was organised as part of Moat’s commitment for staff to become more involved in Moat communities and to increase knowledge of all areas of the organisation. Moat and Maldon District Council staff got stuck into tidying up the area surrounding the Maldon neighbourhood office and built on the already successful partnership with local residents.

Angie Cross, Moat resident, says; “I really enjoyed getting out and about and doing something to improve the area I live in. It was nice to meet the people who work for Moat and the Council and put faces to names.”

Caroline Kay, Moat’s community development officer, says; “It’s important to maintain community pride and a sense of responsibility for the neighbourhoods in which we live and work. This litter pick allowed us and residents to work side by side to tidy up the Heybridge Canal and spend some time outside in the long awaited sunshine!”

Stuart Jarvis, Maldon District Council’s contract liaison and enforcement officer, says; “Partnership working is a priority for us and we’ve been delighted to work with Moat on this project. We and local residents must all play our parts in ensuring that the neighbourhood is a clean and pleasant place to live.”
