Macmillan Cancer Support Volunteer, Tony Bonser, was thrilled to be invited to a local sheltered housing scheme, to pick up a cheque for £600 raised by residents.

The scheme picks a charity every year and in the run up to Christmas members organise a series of fundraising events.

Chief fundraiser, Allan Hill, said: “Every year we like to raise money for a different charity. This year we chose Macmillan Cancer Support for the fantastic work they do.

“In October we held a cabaret evening, the artistes waived their fee and we had a tremendous night. We also had a guess the dogs name competition, a Christmas card appeal and made donations at our weekly coffee mornings.”

Tony Bonser, who collected the donation on behalf of Macmillan, said: “On behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support I’d like to say a huge thank you to the residents of Tuson House for raising this fantastic sum.

“All of the work that Macmillan is able to do comes about from voluntary contributions like this.

“I can reveal that this money is going to go towards funding a Speech Therapist at the Royal Preston Hospital.”
