REFUGEE tenants of a Manchester-based housing association have been given the opportunity to take part in a taster theatre workshop organised by their landlord.
City South Manchester Housing Trust is committed to working closely with the local community to open doors and provide new opportunities. Working with The Royal Exchange community programme, they invited tenants who are refugees along to the taster session in a bid to encourage budding thespians to attend the theatre’s World Wide Workshop (WWW).
The WWW is the Royal Exchange Theatre’s regular group for refugee and asylum seekers aged 18 or over with an interest in theatre or drama. This is first time WWW has worked with a housing association.
Niall Power, head of regeneration at City South Manchester Housing Trust, said: “We work closely with the Royal Exchange to provide opportunities for our tenants, many of whom have never been to the theatre before, to access drama. This workshop was targeted at a particularly hard to reach group, who really benefitted from the experience.”
City South Manchester Housing Trust is a not-for-profit housing
company that owns and manages 4,500 properties in Hulme,
Fallowfield, Moss Side and Whalley Range.
