'Safe and Fuel Efficient' driver training programme
Community Gateway Association(CGA) has been infomed by Shred Easy that its paper recycling initiative has saved 314 mature trees from destruction in 2009.
The recycling scheme forms a part of CGA’s environmental strategy and follows on from last years “Green Day” when colleagues found alternative methods of travel to get to work instead of using the car.
The CGA Environmental Committee or “Green Team” is represented by both colleagues and residents, and is tasked with managing environmental initiatives and improvements in support of the organisational goal of sustainability.
Other environmental improvement initiatives that CGA been involved in over the last year include:
- The installation of insulation, double glazing, energy efficient heating systems and appliances in CGA properties is helping to reduce energy usage and reduce costs to tenants.
- Installation of showers and low volume bathroom fittings is helping to reduce water usage.
- Operating a modern, fuel efficient fleet of vehicles, and training drivers of company vehicles in ‘Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving’ is helping to reduce fuel usage and carbon-based emissions.
- Improving the local environment through estate clean-ups and numerous community projects, often in partnership with local agencies.
- Proposed installation of photovoltaic cells in three sheltered housing schemes (to provide power for lighting in communal areas)
- Currently working with developers to build two homes to Sustainability Code Level 4
