Partners involved in the recent Midnight Football League project are celebrating after seeing the crime figures from that period showing significant reductions in anti-social behaviour.
It has also been confirmed that further funds have been offered by Lancashire County Council to continue the project.
The figures, released by the Leyland Neighbourhood Policing Team, show a 2% reduction in the total number of crimes committed in Leyland, compared with the same period in 2008, and a 9.15% reduction in incidents of Anti-Social Behaviour.
On the Wade Hall beat itself, where the project took place, there has been a massive 31.6% reduction in incidents of Anti-Social Behaviour.
The idea was initiated by New Progress Housing Association and was funded by Lancashire County Council’s Young Peoples Services. A number of partner agencies where involved from the start and delivery was conducted by The Leyland Project, South Ribble Leisure and the local Community Policing Teams.
New Progress Housing Association’s Managing Director, Bernie Keenan, said: “One of the main aims of the project was to reduce crime and instances of anti-social behaviour and we are very proud to be able to say that we achieved that aim.”
Sergeant Nick Everett, of the Leyland Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are really pleased to be able to announce a significant reduction in Anti-Social Behaviour in Leyland, and in particular on the Wade Hall Beat where the initiative was piloted.
“It is clear that the planning and methodology that was used has paid off. We hope to be able to continue running the project throughout 2010 on the Wade Hall Estate, whilst also rolling it out into other area’s across South Ribble.”
Paul Shannon, Deputy Contract Manager for South Ribble Leisure, added: “South Ribble Leisure is delighted to support this local partnership initiative. One of our aims is to increase participation of young people across South Ribble and this project has certainly proved to be a success with the young people living in and around Wade Hall.”
The partnership has plans to develop the scheme in other areas
of South Ribble, including Kingsfold and Bamber Bridge.
