Social landlord Contour Homes is supporting a new project designed to reduce anti social behaviour at one of its housing estates in Bolton.

Contour Homes has provided a property to be used as a community house for the enjoyment of the local community. As well as using the house as a base for a Mothers and Toddlers Group it will also be used as a ‘community centre’ which will offer drugs counselling and help people access training and employment.

The Roots Project has secured an initial grant for its work and Shanine Meadowcroft from Contour Homes said that residents were looking forward to getting involved.

“The Roots Project wants to involve residents in all aspects of its work and will take the lead from them about the type of work the project should be doing. Initial consultation has already identified the need for the mums and toddlers group and the need for youth training.

“We see the youth work as crucial in reducing anti social behaviour and our vision is to deliver two training packages for young people starting in January 2010. This will include young people from 16 –18 engaging in youth leader and sports leader awards and a parallel programme for personal development with adults and parents.”

Contour Homes has joined forces with other housing providers including Bolton at Home and St Vincent’s Housing as well as service providers including Bolton Youth Services and Bolton Community College who fully support the Roots project.
