Operatives working to maintain properties in Leeds have demonstrated it really is ‘snow bother’ to help clear pathways to ensure ease of access around sheltered housing complexes in the area.
A team of Connaught Partnerships Ltd operatives working on behalf of West North West Homes Leeds (WNWHL) to provide a responsive maintenance service to properties in Pudsey swapped their spanners for shovels to help ensure the paths around five sheltered housing complexes were passable for residents.
Operatives more used to replacing cracked paving slabs instead spent a chilly afternoon clearing up to seven inches of snow from them around Greenside Community Centre, Claremont Grove, Stanningley Court, Whingate Court and Ashlea Court complexes providing accommodation for elderly and disabled people in the area.
Lynne Eddison, warden of Greenside Community Centre in Pudsey, said: “The amount of snow we have had so far this year has been far in excess of what we would normally expect and as such residents have understandably struggled to get outside and it has made things much more difficult for visitors to get here.
“It was therefore a great relief that Connaught came to the rescue and staff gave up their own time to help clear the paths and I would like to thank them on behalf of the residents for this wonderful gesture.”
Graham Hepworth, Connaught partnership manager, said: “We are always keen to support the community and go above and beyond our contracted works and in this case the team has certainly done that. We all appreciate how important it is for residents of the sheltered housing complexes to have visitors and for deliveries to get through and it is great to know the efforts of the operatives in freezing conditions have been much appreciated.”
Cathy Clelland, WNWHL Chair, said: “Connaught showed true grit and determination stepping up to help our valued sheltered customers and staff. It is simple, yet effective, pavement clearing that can make all the difference to the access to these sheltered schemes and we appreciate the stern effort, in awful conditions, put in by the operatives.”
