Chorley Mayor, Cllr Iris Smith, with Bridge resident, Keeley Eastham and Bridge Project Co-ordinator Sue Parkinson.
Chorley Mayor, Councillor Iris Smith, was the guest of honour at an open day held at The Bridge, New Progress Housing Association’s purpose built housing scheme for homeless people aged 16-25, in November.
The supported living accommodation has been managed by New Progress Housing Association since 2005 and started out with just one member of staff. The scheme now employs a team of three which means that its residents are receiving an increased service.
Working in partnership with Chorley Borough Council, staff at The Bridge are able to accommodate 10 residents, each in their own self contained flat for up to 18 months.
Cllr Smith is a keen supporter of young people and has nominated local young people’s organisations as one of her chosen charities during her Mayoral year. She was thrilled to be invited to The Bridge to see the work being done there and speak to the young people living there.
The Bridge is proud to offer its residents more than just housing. It offers young people the opportunity to improve their quality of life by providing a stable environment which enables greater independence.
Over the past 12 months residents of The Bridge have enjoyed
fundraising for Comic Relief and helping Progress Housing
Group’s Marketing team to re-design the Giving us Feedback
leaflet, used by themselves in a way that is clearer to them.
