Kind-hearted residents of Croft and Naze Court, a New Fylde Housing sheltered accommodation scheme, have raised £500 to send to a fellow sheltered scheme in Cockermouth, Cumbria.

Residents approached their scheme manager, Liz Mercer, with the idea of a coffee morning and raffle, with all proceeds going to victims of the devastating floods experienced in Cumbria in November.

Liz said: “I was approached by residents who explained to me how they thought they would feel if they were experiencing the terrible time that people in Cumbria are having.

“They asked if they could organise a fund-raising coffee morning and if I could find a scheme in Cumbria that could be the beneficiary of their efforts.

“On the day we held a coffee morning with a raffle and a duck hunt. Residents gave very generously and raised a total of £250. They then unanimously voted to double it to £500 with money from their social fund.“
