As part of road safety week around 600 pupils across Tonbridge and Malling are being asked to stop, look and listen by a theatre group thanks to new sponsorship from Russet Homes.

Part of Circle Anglia, Russet Homes - the largest provider of social housing in Tonbridge and Malling – funded The Smart Brother Road Safety Show to visit pupils aged 4 - 11 years attending four local schools, St James the Great Primary, Longmead Community Primary, St Georges Primary and St Stephens Primary.

Using a mixture of juggling, unicycling, circus skills and song, along with plenty of audience participation the group educated the children in how to safely cross the road.

Ivanna Roberts-Cillia, Head of Housing said: “As the borough’s leading landlord we feel a responsibility to raise awareness of safety within the community. We believe by teaching young children simple messages about crossing the road it may save them from becoming one of the heartbreaking statistics who are injured in road traffic accidents each year.

“Whilst the overriding message was to stop, look, and listen the children also learnt about cycling safety, the dangers of playing, using mobile phone and listening to headphones near the road and safety when travelling in a vehicle.”

Each child was given a Highway Code book for young road users and a jitterbug reflective foot to wear to help them to be easily seen at all times of the day and night.
