The new regulatory framework for Housing Associations, set up by the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG), includes a new Regulatory Board with a Tenants Advisory Panel (TAP). Applications are now being invited for selection to the Tenants Advisory Panel.

The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) asked for a review of the Regulation Framework for Housing Associations which was led by Sue Essex, a former Finance Minister in WAG. The Essex Rewview was published in 2008 and has been hugely influential in promoting radical change in the way that social housing is delivered, regulated and funded in Wales. One of the key reccomendations was to establish a Regulatory Board to oversee the role of the regulator, and this has now been approved.

The structure of the Regulatory Board includes a Tenants Advisory Panel (TAP) to provide valuable counsel from tenant experiences to the Regulatory Board. TAP enables the tenant community to have a voice at the heart of assessment and decision making about the delivery of Housing Association services.

TAP will act as a "service user" panel which the Regulatory Board can consult about housing service issues and as a sounding board for policy considerations. TAP will respond to issues raised by the Regulatory Board, but TAP can also be pro-active by raising tenant service user issues.
