The Bridge, Chorley, is opening its doors on Thursday November 26 to host an informal lunch, as part of Supported Housing Month North, to celebrate its work.
The purpose built housing scheme for homeless people aged 16-25 has flourished since it opened in June 2005. Staff and residents are keen to show just how it has developed over the last four years.
The supported living accommodation has been managed by New Progress Housing Association since 2005 and started out with just one member of staff. The scheme now employs a team of three which means that its residents are receiving an increased service.
Working in partnership with Chorley Borough Council, staff at The Bridge are able to accommodate 10 residents, each in their own self contained flat for up to 18 months.
The Bridge is proud to offer its residents more than just housing. It offers young people the opportunity to improve their quality of life by providing a stable environment which enables greater independence.
Over the past 12 months residents of The Bridge have enjoyed fundraising for Comic Relief and helping Progress Housing Group’s Marketing team to re-design the Giving us Feedback leaflet, used by themselves in a way that is clearer to them.
The 10 residents have also made good use of gym memberships at their local leisure centre, sponsored by the Philip Lockwood memorial fund, and laptops provided by lottery funding received by New Progress Housing Association.
Doors will be open from 11.30am-2.30pm and as well as guests from all partnership organisations, expected visitors include staff from New Progress Housing Association, former tenants and local businesses.
Head of Housing Support, Sue Whitham, said: “NPHA are extremely proud of the work that is being carried out at The Bridge and the feedback from the residents is extremely positive. It is rewarding to hear how the lives of the residents have changed for the better and they are leaving with increased skills in order to live independent lives”
We are looking forward to showcasing the scheme and give guests
an opportunity to meet with both staff and residents.
