Youngsters with some of the new toys
Bishop Auckland youngsters are guaranteed a fun time after
school thanks to a donation from the Better Homes, Better Lives
fund.
The 35 youngsters who use Auckland Out of School Care at Auckland
Youth and Community Centre have £500 of new toys, games and
computer equipment to keep them occupied.
The organisation was formed seven years ago to provide after school
and holiday care for up to 50 youngsters aged four to 14.
The application to the Better Homes, Better Lives fund, which is
run by housing management company Dale & Valley Homes, has
helped to provide more equipment to satisfy the requirements of
OFSTED for younger children.
Children’s co-ordinator Kerry Turner said: “The money
they have given us was a chance to buy some new things for the
children to play with that link into the early years foundation
stage for under fives.
“It has also given us the chance to buy things for the over
fives, just so they can have fun.”
Carol Porter from Dale & Valley Homes said: “This group
lets kids have fun and learn in a safe environment while their
parents have the chance to work knowing the youngsters are properly
looked after.
“It is exactly this kind of community support that the Better
Homes, Better Lives fund is there to help.”
