Caroline Parr CGA Senior HR Advisor and other agencies at Awards Ceremony
Navajo is a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Gendered (LGBT) peoples’ project that aims to involve and serve the LGBT community in terms of their social well being across Lancashire.
Why the name Navajo?
In choosing the name Navajo the project wanted to pay generous tribute to the traditions of tolerance, non-discrimination and goodwill that have historically formed a central part of the Navajo Nation's beliefs, including respect being paid to 'two-spirit' people. Those whose sexuality included being attracted to their own gender were deemed to have special spiritual powers and were afforded a "unique" place in their society and were admired and honoured for this.
Navajo Chartermark
Private, public, voluntary and community sector organisations in Lancashire that take positive steps to welcome and encompass LGBT issues within their organisation or service provision can apply for the Navajo Charter Mark.
The Navajo Chartermark required an evaluation of CGA’s policies and procedures in meeting the needs of this diverse group of people.
CGA achieved this Chartermark in September and was commended in taking encouraging steps to welcome and encompass LGBT issues within the organisation, ensuring every opportunity is given for this community to access services. The organisation recieved its accreditation certficate at a ceremony at the beggining of November.
