New Progress Housing Association is throwing open the doors of its Smart Home, in Leyland, to showcase its Lifeline and Telecare services.

Visitors will be able to learn all about the Lifeline facility that enables older and more vulnerable people to keep their independence, and gives their family reassurance that help is at hand 24 hours a day.

Telecare is a range of sensors that monitor risks, hazards and environmental conditions, triggering a call to the monitoring centre or designated carer if assistance is required. Products include flood detectors, fall detectors and movement detectors.

The open day will also showcase all aspects of life within a sheltered housing scheme showing the social activities that residents take part in.

The event also forms part of Supported Housing Month North. This is a month long series of activities that aims to shout out about the difference housing associations are making through working with over 165,000 people across the North of England.

Derek Long, Head of North for the National Housing Federation, said: "Supported housing and floating support services do not currently have the recognition they deserve. Housing associations and other providers working in this field are unsung heroes, making a vast contribution through an enormous variety of services, tailored to meet a wide range of needs. Not only do they enable individuals to enjoy greater independence, improving the quality of life for thousands of people throughout the region, but they are also helping public sector agencies tackle regional priorities and targets.

"Supported Housing Month - North has been aimed at raising awareness, and it has acted as a fantastic showcase for this important work."

Doors open at the Greenwood Court sheltered housing scheme on Herbert Street, Leyland, on Friday November 20 at 11am. The event will conclude at 2pm.

There’s no need to book, just come along.
