New Fylde Housing is opening an innovative and high quality assistive technology suite at its Stanner Lodge sheltered housing scheme, in St Annes, on Wednesday November 18.

The event also forms part of Supported Housing Month North. This is a month long series of activities that aims to shout out about the difference housing associations are making through working with over 165,000 people across the North of England.

The Lytham-based housing association has used funding provided by the Older People’s Partnership Board of Fylde and Wyre to create a smart home. The aim of the smart home is to give health professionals a better awareness of the types of equipment available to assist older people in maintaining their independence.

The equipment has been installed into two flats, developed jointly with Lancashire County Council Social Services, which are used for respite care and rehabilitation. This means that the equipment is being used practically as well as for demonstration purposes.

The assistive technology suite follows the launch of Sheltered Plus in June and sees the partnership of New Fylde Housing, Lancashire County Council and Care Watch continue to enjoy great success with its care services.

Supported Housing Month North is being coordinated by the National Housing Federation, and is seeing a series of events, visits, launches and other activities taking place. Local politicians, key stakeholders, the local business community and the wider public were invited to attend to find out more about what their local services do.

Head of Housing Services, David Baker, said: “We are very proud of the work that we are doing and would like to invite people to see for themselves some of the achievements that we have been able to make through our partnering approach and resident involvement ethos.

“As well as a viewing of the assistive technology suite guests will have the opportunity to participate in a Nintendo Wii bowling competition and to enjoy a two course meal from the new luncheon club menu.”

The event starts at 10.30am and will conclude with a luncheon being served at 12.15pm.
