A Moat and Higgins Construction PLC development, Charter House, has been acknowledged in the Maldon District Conservation and Design Awards for the ‘Top Design Award’. These awards seek to promote and acknowledge high standards of design and conservation at projects throughout the Maldon District.

Charter House is an environmentally friendly new build scheme. It has been designed to fit in with the surrounding area and is located just off Maldon high street. The development uses timber frame construction with timber from a sustainable source and comprises twenty two apartments within two blocks. It meets the government standard of Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, using photovoltaic energy which provides some free electricity to each home. Moat is offering ten of these apartments to local first time buyers on a shared ownership basis.

Maldon District Council's prestigious Conservation and Design Awards programme is one of the longest running award schemes in this sector. The panel of judges is made up of various local professionals and different people are invited to sit on the panel each year. Shortlisted nominations were judged on site in October and winners were announced shortly afterwards. A presentation ceremony will take place on 27 November 2009.

Moat’s head of development delivery, Jason Amos, says; “We are delighted to be recognised for the design of Charter House. The fact that these awards are judged by regional representatives is key because it demonstrates the impact Charter House has had on a local level. Moat is keen to prove that affordable housing can be well designed and environmentally friendly and we are delighted to receive this award!”

For more information about the new homes available at Charter House please contact Moat’s sales and marketing team on 0845 359 6161.
