Leyland-based Progress Housing Group has given its full support to the National Housing Federation in its bid to tackle homelessness throughout the North West.
The National Housing Federation represents 1,200 not-for-profit housing organisations in England and campaigns for better housing and neighbourhoods.
Nearly 100,000 households are accepted as homeless each year and housing associations, including New Progress Housing Association and New Fylde Housing, are working with local authorities and charities to alleviate this. A significant proportion of lettings made by housing associations are to people who come to the sector via local authorities (whose duty it is decide who ‘qualifies’ as homeless).
The Group is committed to working constructively with local authorities to ensure that it delivers the best possible services to prevent homelessness in the first place and to offer assistance where possible when homelessness occurs.
Progress Housing Group’s Chief Executive, Jacqui De-Rose, said: “As a Group we are committed to supporting the National Housing Federation in its quest to find affordable housing for homeless families and single people.
“We are proud of our Foundations/Inn2 scheme in Preston City Centre and The Bridge in Chorley. These are purpose-built housing schemes for young people and adults experiencing homelessness. They offer much needed support and assist individuals to rebuild their lives after experiencing the trauma of homelessness.
“One of our aims is to work with local authorities, in the
areas in which we operate, to provide more affordable housing to
homeless people.”
