Colleagues from CGA on Green Day
Getting to work in the most environmentally friendly way is very important to reduce pollution and combat climate change.Road transport is the largest source of air pollution in urban areas of the country.
As part of its ongoing commitment to the environment, Community Gateway Association’s (CGA) Green Team encouraged CGA colleagues to abandon their cars on 16 Oct to find a more environmentally friendly way of getting to work e.g. public transport, walking, cycling, and running
Colleagues took part in a survey with the following results:-
• 44% of staff surveyed live
only 2-5 miles from the associations headquarters
• 53% would be committed to changing the way they come to work
on a regular basis
• 52% saved money buy choosing a different method of
travel
Paul Atkinson Director of Resources said " Transport is one of the largest contributors to climate change. Pollution from transport damages health and congestion on the roads costs time and money. We will be working with all colleagues in the organisation to look at how we can help them make this one off event become the permanent way they come into work."
Helen Davies CGA’s complaints officer commented, “I really enjoyed coming to work on my bike. Go Green Day made me think about my own impact on the environment, it was great exercise and the weather was fantastic which made it even better."
Colleagues were encouraged to donate the money saved to CGA’s staff charity, Vine House Cancer Care day centre
