Florence Bedwell

Press release: 16 October 2009

Florence Bedwell, 77, made the finals at this year’s Social Landlords' Crime and Nuisance Group (SLCNG) awards. Florence was awarded the certificate for ‘Outstanding achievements by an individual resident or a group of residents in combating antisocial behaviour’.

Tributes from community representatives in recognition of her achievements include:

Stella Creasy, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate
“Florence is always helping her neighbours, both at her local church and in the wider community - whether cleaning up the gardens, making tea for fundraisers or simply looking after others. She is well loved and a local hero.”

Ruth Murfitt PCSO for Lea Bridge Safer Neighbourhoods Team, “Florence is one of our Ward Panel Members, working to improve the neighbourhood she has lived in for 45 years, with local Council Members, Churches and the ACF Youth Club. Florence is a very warm hearted lady and is a super role model to all her age group.”

Hanif Qadir, Project and Programme Leader
Florence has been an instrumental player in reducing antisocial behaviour, drugs and other threats posed in Waltham Forest. Providing an alternative and appreciative support system to local residents, we believe that Florence has reaped huge success within our community.

Rubeena Amanullah, Community Development Officer
“Florence Bedwell is a credit to our community, a warm person who has time for everyone.”

Florence had this to say about her award, “I am so happy to be here and I am just pleased that I have been able to help local residents and neighbours. By working together we can all make a difference for the better.“
