The first couple to be housed under Dale & Valley Homes’ new choice-based lettings system have received the keys to their new home.

Tony and Kim Gill are moving into their new home in Grey Gardens, Coundon, after returning to the UK from living in Turkey.
Natives of the Bishop Auckland area, before being offered the new home they were staying with relatives.
Mr Gill said: “Under the new system, this was the first house we applied for. We thought this was a nice area.
“Everyone recommended Grey Gardens as a nice, quiet area.”
Joanne Dunn of Dale & Valley Homes, which manages council homes in Wear Valley, said: “The new system, known as choice-based letting, has been tried in other areas and proved a success.
“Applicants are told which level of priority they have and the type of property they would be considered for, then they can bid for homes all over County Durham.
“It gives people a much greater choice in their new home.”
