Progress Housing Group Chief Executive Jacqui De-Rose with the Rabbi Book, of St Annes Synagogue (middle) and New Fylde Housing’s Managing Director, Eric Tamanis.
Staff at Progress Housing Group were given the opportunity to visit local synagogues, in Blackpool and St Annes, as part of the Group’s cultural awareness programme.
The visits were organised by Tenant Services Officer, Statia Medlicott, based at the Group’s New Fylde Housing offices in St Annes.
The visits were designed to teach staff about the Jewish New Year festival that takes place in September.
The festival is called "Rosh Hashanah" It commemorates the creation of the world, and is also a judgement day. On this day a person's good deeds and bad deeds for the year are considered in order to determine what the next year will bring. The judgement is recorded in the Book of Life.
Members of staff including Group Chief Executive Jacqui De-Rose and New Fylde Housing’s Managing Director, Eric Tamanis were welcomed by Rabbi David Brunald of Blackpool Synagogue and Rabbi Leonard Book of St Annes Synagogue.
A tour of each building was followed by a talk by each Rabbi and
a question and answer session.
