Marathon-mad staff from housing provider Sanctuary Hereward, put on their running shoes for charity this Sunday to take part in Cambridge’s 17th annual ‘Chariots of Fire Race’.

The 10.2 mile race, which saw over 2,000 people take part, is a relay through the streets and sights of Cambridge and is one of the largest fundraising events in the county.

This is the 12th year that Sanctuary Hereward, part of UK leading housing provider Sanctuary Group, has taken part in the race, which this year is raising money for Cam-mind, the city’s longest established mental health charity.

Teams of six compete, with each member running a 1.7 mile leg of the race and Sanctuary’s team – made up of staff from across the East region – completed the course in a respectable time of one hour 11 minutes, beating last year’s time of one hour 22 minutes.

The Chariots of Fire race, which was set up in 1992, has so far raised over £713,000 for charities based in Cambridge and its surrounding areas.
