Residents of Riviera Housing Trust, part of UK leading provider Sanctuary Group, have reached the heady heights of horticulture in this year’s Torbay in Bloom competition.

Hazel and Brian Dudley of Coleridge Court Hazel, a sheltered housing scheme in Torquay, took first prize for their ‘bedding plants’ and ‘hanging baskets’, while fellow resident Mary Gray came third in the ‘vegetable garden’ section.

The annual competition, which is held by Torbay Council, is very popular in the region and is concluded with a special award ceremony at Paignton Zoo where winners will receive their award.

Mr and Mrs Dudley were delighted to be announced as winners, saying: ”It is nice to receive this award and good to know that other people enjoy the fruits of our labour as much as we do.”

Scheme manager at Coleridge Court Hazel, Jane Morrissey said: "The whole scheme here looks fantastic thanks to the hard work of all the residents who take real pride in their environment.

“We have some really keen gardeners here and their shared interest means that everyone else can reap the benefits. Congratulations are due to everyone who has helped the scheme look as good as it does now. We are all extremely proud.”
