When you think of Community Gateway Association (CGA), you think of the colour Purple. What you might not know is that Preston’s largest housing association is going big on becoming green.

Did you know passenger cars, vans and larger vehicles account for 62 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions?

For every gallon of petrol a car burns, it emits about 20 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2).

Multiply that by a daily journey of 40 miles for a car that does 24 miles per gallon, and you have a car that is spewing out more than 8,000 pounds of CO2 for its commute each year. Saving just a few gallons of petrol each week can really add up.

As part of its ongoing commitment to the environment, CGA’s Green team are asking everyone to “ditch” the car on 16 October and find a more environmentally friendly way of getting to work.

Colleagues have been encouraged to donate the money saved to CGA’s chosen charity, Vine House Cancer Care day centre.
