Sanctuary children enjoy rewards week
Young residents at two Sanctuary Shaftesbury housing estates in St Austell have enjoyed an action-packed Summer holiday thanks to this year’s Dreamscheme project, funded by Sanctuary.
The Dreamscheme encourages young people to get working in their community in exchange for points which they can spend on trips and activities of their choice.
St Austell youngsters from Timber Close and Gover Road got in on the action by giving their neighbourhood a makeover, which involved planting herbs, taking part in a litter pick and designing new signage, all to build up points which were then exchanged for visits to Newquay Zoo and Flambards theme park.
This is the third year that Sanctuary Shaftesbury, a member of
leading UK housing provider Sanctuary Group, has been running
Dreamscheme projects and organising and funding trips. This year
Sanctuary has contributed over £700 to the scheme.
Young resident Amy Harris commented: “It’s been really
fun and it was good to get the chance to work with people that you
don’t really know.”
Michael Howarth, Sanctuary Shaftesbury’s community development officer said: “This year’s Dreamscheme has been a brilliant success and has been well supported.
“It’s great to see the children enjoying their work
tasks as well as their rewards, plus the project gives everyone a
chance to work and play together to improve their own
community.”
