‘Hard work, healthy living and pride in the job’ is the secret of one lively lady who has retired without a single day of sick leave over 26 years.
Sanctuary Housing employee Jenny Jepson proved
Stoke-on-Trent’s old ‘Sick City’ reputation a
myth, after over a quarter of a century’s loyal service as
cleaner at
Sandon Court in Meir.
A tearful Jenny was presented with numerous flowers from grateful staff, residents and their families at a surprise coffee morning to mark the occasion and to thank her for her commitment and all she has contributed over her time at the scheme.
Jenny said: “I have thoroughly loved my job at Sandon Court over the last 26 years. I shall miss the residents most of all, they are what has kept me going all this time – that, and hard work, healthy living, love of the job and pride in my work.”
Asked what she will be doing in her retirement, she replied: “I’ll be spending more time with my husband and getting out a lot more and of course, I’m looking forward to a few lie-ins!”
Mark Cliffe, assistant manager for sheltered housing at Sanctuary, said: “We are very sad to be saying goodbye to Jenny today. She has become part of the fabric at the scheme for all our staff and residents.
"Jenny is a humble, inspirational lady and her dedication and
commitment over the years is a rare thing. We will miss her and
wish her all the best for her retirement.“
