The International Federation for Housing and Planning (IFHP), which has members in 60 countries, has elected Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) Vice-chair, John Zetter, as its President.
John Zetter said:
"With its focus on sustainable development the IFHP is in a
powerful position to promote mutual learning and inspiration. This
will generate new ideas to meet the global challenges facing
housing and planning today."
The Federation was founded in London in 1913 by Ebenezer Howard -15 years after the TCPA - as the international arm of the Garden Cities movement.
John’s election is a significant tribute to British
planning and his 4-year term will end with the IFHP’s
centennial celebrations. Preliminary ideas for these include
holding the Federation’s Annual Congress in London in
2013.
