Sticky buns and strawberries and cream were the order of the day as residents of Crofton enjoyed a special tea party held by Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) and construction partners Mears.
Locals gathered at Crofton Parish Centre where WDH and Mears laid on a summer spread and games of bingo to thank residents for their patience as their homes undergo redevelopment.
Valerie Dyson, who is currently having her home at Mannerfields Court improved to the Wakefield Standard, says she was pleasantly surprised with the tea party.
“It’s great – we never really expected anything as nice as this,” says Valerie. “There are a lot of familiar faces here. It’s brought everyone together.”
Valerie has been impressed with the smooth and seamless improvement work so far. “There has been very little fuss and disruption,” she added. “The workmanship has been top notch. My home is at the point of completion and I’m very happy with the way things have gone.”
WDH’s Tenant Involvement Officer Jane Gwilliam says the aim of the ea party was to reassure tenants that they have all the support they need.
“It’s our way of saying thank you for their understanding and patience,” says Jane. “We appreciate that the work being carried out can be unsettling for some, so we just wanted the residents to know that we are here for them.”
Jane Stockton-Wood, Customer Manager for Mears, added: “We wanted to give something back to the community. The residents deserve a bit of a treat while we carry out work at their homes.”
The party culminated in a prize draw that saw one lucky resident win the services of a Mears employee who offered an afternoon of his time to decorate a room of the winner’s choice.
