children at the Meadowvale estate brighten up their community
Residents and staff from Sanctuary Shaftesbury came together for a fantastic community day at Meadowvale, a general rented scheme in Dursley, Gloucestershire in early August.
Sanctuary Shaftesbury, a member of leading UK housing provider
Sanctuary Group, contributed £2,000 in funding towards the
day, which saw around 30 residents planting flowers and plants in
gardens around the scheme and painting the fence that surrounds the
estate.
Sanctuary organised the day to enhance community spirit by
brightening up the neighbourhood and getting residents to work
together. Members of the GL11 Community Group were also on hand to
help, as was local Police Community Support Officer, Michelle
Dodd.
Local resident Geraldine Dunlop said: "I've just moved in and have never lived anywhere with such pleasant neighbours before with everyone helping each other out. It's been a really enjoyable day painting fences and planting plants."
This was echoed by fellow resident Kelly Adams, who commented: “The kids really enjoyed themselves and it’s great that they now have something they can take pride in and care for."
Peter Brierley, Sanctuary’s community development officer
added: “Building and improving our communities is at the
heart of Sanctuary’s activities and what has been achieved at
this community day demonstrates this . The residents have worked
hard to transform the estate, and it’s great to see everyone
enjoying working alongside one another.”
