local residents tidy their neighbourhood
Residents at Truro Avenue, a housing scheme in Torquay, got together on recently to tidy up their estate ready for new garden planters to brighten up the area.
Riviera has provided £2,000 to fund the project, which will improve the environment and encourage residents to take pride in their surroundings.
16 residents, including four children, spent the afternoon working hard to clear external communal areas at Truro Avenue so that sheds and planters can be installed on the housing scheme next week.
Riviera Housing Trust, which manages the scheme and is a member of leading UK housing provider Sanctuary Group, consulted residents to discuss how they would like to see their environment improved and the overwhelming response was that they would like somewhere to grow plants.
Resident Trevor Burridge said: "After the clean up the whole place looks so much better and brighter and it will be even better once we have the planters in place and can start to grow things! Everyone is very happy."
Lynne Roberts, Riviera’s community development officer said: “The residents have worked incredibly hard and have done a fantastic job. There is a real sense of community spirit at the scheme. They have shown a real commitment to improving the environment, and Riviera is only too happy to support them.
“Everyone is looking forward to getting the planters and
sheds in place now so that they can start growing a whole variety
of things from flowers to fruit.”
