Riviera Housing Trust, a member of leading housing provider Sanctuary Group, has evicted a troublesome tenant after repeated antisocial behaviour.
The resident breached their tenancy agreement on a number of occasions, including verbally abusing neighbours, excessive noise and a general disregard for the people living close by.
The tenant has now vacated their property after Torquay and Newton Abbot County Court granted Riviera a possession order and issued an injunction to prevent them from causing nuisance or annoyance to anyone living in the Salisbury Avenue area.
One of the tenant’s former neighbours, Mrs Connor said: “Living next to them was like torture, we were constantly on tenterhooks. People used to come and go from the house as they pleased and music would be blaring throughout the night. It was very difficult for us to even have our grandchildren stay with us.
“Since they have left it’s been a total relief and I’m so grateful to Riviera’s Neighbourhood Coordinator who was absolutely fantastic. She did a perfect job and it just goes to show that although situations like this can be difficult, there are people who can help and things can be done.
“People need to know that they don’t have to suffer in silence, our neighbours have been very supportive and the whole situation has helped to bring the community closer together.”
Katie Poole, Riviera Housing’s neighbourhood services manager said:
“This case highlights how seriously we view antisocial behaviour and we will not hesitate to take action if tenants fail to treat their neighbours with the respect they deserve.
“Eviction is always a last resort and we did everything we
could to resolve the situation, but in this instance we were left
with no alternative. It is our responsibility to do whatever is
necessary to restore harmony to the community and we feel that our
action will ensure a more pleasant environment for residents in the
area.”
