Housing organisation Central & Cecil celebrated Gypsy Roma Traveller History month on June 30 with an action-packed event at the Haringey Irish Centre, which was attended by approximately 150 people.

Representatives from statutory and voluntary agencies manned stalls, while entertainment was provided over lunch by Irish singer Bridgette Cochran, a group of Irish dancers and a Romanian Gypsy band.

Speakers throughout the day highlighted housing, health and legal issues, while historian Ted Rudge provided a fascinating talk on Birmingham’s Black Patch gypsies.

Members of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community widely attended the event, as well as Haringey Primary Care Trust, the library and prison services and the Showman’s Guild. Health Visitors and Social Workers were also present, as well as Michael Keaveney of the Irish Embassy.
