Two Glasgow housing associations are celebrating after winning the ballot to transfer Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) homes to community ownership.

322 tenants in Glasgow will have a new landlord following the transfer of homes from Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) to Provanhall Housing Association (PHA) and Glasgow West Housing Association (GWHA) under the Second Stage Transfer (SST) process.

Provanhall Housing Association will take control of 195 homes, and another 127 houses in Hyndland will be transferred to Glasgow West Housing Association on Monday 27 July. The tenants in these areas will get rent increase guarantees, a responsive repairs service and will still have their right to buy their home.

The move comes after tenants in Provanhall and Glasgow West voted yes in ballots to proceed with the transfers.
Provanhall and Glasgow West join Shettleston, Ardenglen, Cassiltoun and Parkhead housing associations which took control of GHA homes in March this year.

Provanhall tenant John Percy, 88, has lived in the area for more than 50 years, he said: “The Association has been working hard to keep things local for us and create a better environment and a great community spirit in Provanhall.”

Patricia Gallagher, Director of Provanhall Housing Association, said: “This is a landmark in Provanhall Housing Association’s history. We want to thank our dedicated management committee, made up entirely of volunteers and residents, and our staff, who have been working towards this for five years. We truly believe it is the right thing for our community and for tenants.”

Dave Sim, Chair of Glasgow West Housing Association (GWHA), said: “This has been a long and difficult journey but I thank the Local Management Committee, tenants and residents in Hyndland for their continued support which was vital to achieving second stage transfer - and for their patience. I am delighted to welcome Hyndland tenants to Glasgow West HA. I would also like to thank staff at Glasgow West HA for their efforts – often in the background – to make this happen.”

Linda Reid, Director of Glasgow West HA, said: “GWHA has a strong track record of delivering successful, seamless transfers and after five years of providing services in Hyndland, this transfer strengthens our relationship and offers Hyndland residents the opportunity for local control, enhancing accountability, governance, services and investment.“

John Banks, Chair of Hyndland Local Management Committee said: “GWHA received a resounding ‘Yes’ mandate from Hyndland tenants in December last year and we are eager to transfer to GWHA.”
