A leading provider of repairs and maintenance services in Greater Manchester has been rated in the top ten per cent of constructors nationwide for its excellent site management for the second year running.

Manchester Working Limited, a joint venture between Morrison and Manchester City Council, was presented with the Considerate Constructors ‘Performance Beyond Compliance’ certificate after its audited sites achieved a score of 37.5 out of 40.

Morrison chief executive Guy Wakeley said: “I am delighted that Manchester Working has been recognised for ‘Performance Beyond Compliance’ by Considerate Constructors for the second year running. This success underlines the passion we have for our people and our commitment to caring for our customers, our communities and our environment.”

The audit praised Manchester Working on its procedures and disciplines and on Morrison’s unique Passport to Work scheme, which ensures all staff are fully trained in health and safety, the environment, customer care and quality before they go on site. The report also stated that the community focus is ‘unrivalled and excellent’ and that its community development programme should be commended for both its ‘concept and the enthusiasm of those involved.’

Special mention was given to Site Manager Dave Cheshire, who was commended for the manner in which he has ‘picked up the reins’ since becoming a site manager.
Commenting on the award Des Morris, Managing Director of Manchester Working Limited, added: “I am very proud that the Manchester Working team has managed to achieve such an excellent score for the second year running. All our employees are committed to producing the highest calibre of workmanship and this award is a testament to the team’s hard work and commitment.

“When our sites were inspected they performed beyond compliance by scoring the maximum score of 5 in three of the eight sections of the scheme’s code of Considerate Practice and 4.5 in the rest. All our Decent Homes sites are registered with the scheme and are monitored against the Code of Considerate Practice.”

Considerate Constructors is the regulatory body for national construction projects. All registered sites are subject to regular audits that focus on how sites are managed in terms of the impact on the environment and the surrounding area, community and traffic. The audit also concentrates on how well the site is managed for health and safety and the welfare of all operatives on site.

The scheme focuses on eight different criteria including consideration, environment, cleanliness and respectfulness, with each criteria being scored out of five. A score of three indicates compliance; four indicates a high level beyond compliance and five is awarded where exceptional measures are being taken. Five points are only given where a site is doing something exceptional and unique, as well as working to a very high standard. Sites which achieve a score of 32 or above are awarded a certificate of Performance Beyond Compliance.
