Manchester pupils are ‘safe as houses’ thanks to our Northwards Wardens.

The wardens took part in the ‘Crucial Crew’ event, a safety scheme organised by the Children’s Safety Education Foundation that aims to help primary school children take care of themselves in tricky situations.

Along with partner agencies including the police and ambulance service, the wardens helped the kids to get sussed about safety, teaching them how to cope when faced with a fire, how to stay safe from crime, and the consequences of anti-social behaviour.

The youngsters also discovered the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse, how to deal with an emergency first aid situation and road safety awareness.

Over 1,100 pupils from 50 different local schools attended this huge event, which ran for three weeks throughout June at the TA barracks on Belle Vue Street, Gorton.

Attending schools included All Saints Primary, Gorton, Crumpsall Lane Primary, Crumpsall, Christ the King and Briscoe Lane primary schools, both Newton Heath, and Holy Trinity Primary, Blackley.

The wardens are employed by Northwards to help make north Manchester a cleaner, safer and happier place to live. They patrol the streets six days a week, sorting out a range of local problems from graffiti to faulty street lights, and work with the police to help cut down crime and disorder.
