Morrison, a leading provider of maintenance services and capital projects to the housing sector, has appointed Darren Hill as its National Environmental Advisor. The role, which has been newly created, underlines Morrison’s commitment to sustainability and waste reduction.

In his new role Darren will be responsible for driving environmental improvements and initiatives throughout Morrison’s business, including the development and maintenance of a corporate environmental management system (EMS) and the establishment and reduction of the organisation’s carbon footprint.

Darren will be based at Universal Square, Manchester and report to Joe Small, Head of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE).

Darren joins Morrison from multi—disciplinary consultancy WYG, where he was a Principle Environmental Consultant, working on national and regional environmental support programmes.

Darren began his career as a volunteer at Groundwork, a national regeneration organisation that provides health, safety and environmental support to a diverse range of businesses, before working his way up to become Environmental Business Services Manager.

Commenting on his new role at Morrison Darren said: “I am delighted to be part of the team at Morrison. It is clear to me that the company is very committed to improving its environmental performance and I see my role as one that builds upon this to provide focus, consistency and drive to ensure that the organisation continually improves.

“Through my involvement with a number of best practice groups and with the business development team I will also be assisting with the process of winning new business.”

Morrison chief executive Guy Wakeley added: “At Morrison we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. That is why we have created the role of environmental advisor to drive forward best practice across the business.

“I am very pleased to welcome Darren to the Morrison team. He brings a wealth of experience that will help us to achieve out environmental goals including reducing our carbon footprint and establishing clear company-wide environmental practices to recognised international standards.”
