Enjoying the selection of food from different cultures
Cobalt Housing, part of the Vicinity Group, recently held an
event to celebrate the cultural diversity within North East
Liverpool.
The aim of the event was to bring people from all ages and cultural
backgrounds together to contribute to community harmony and promote
mutual understanding and respect.
The day was marked by the official opening of the new Culture room at the Fazakerley Memorial Hall. Councillor Jack Spriggs opened the room which will help bring together all members of the community.
Residents had the opportunity to share different aspects of their culture including singing, theatre and music. A variety of ethnic dances were displayed - Asian, Indian, Tamil and Filipino, while a selection of food from different cultures was served through the day.
Representatives from local service providers were on hand including the Police, Liverpool Primary Care Trust, Alt Valley Neighbourhood Services, JET, Liverpool Charity Voluntary Services as well as Cobalt Housing staff.
The event was supported by the Asian Cultural Association Liverpool, Indian Cultural Fellowship, Merseyside Shalom Tamil Fellowship, and the Liverpool Filipino Association.
Mike Phillips, Cobalt Resident Involvement Officer said:
“The event was a real success; everyone enjoyed sampling the
different cultures which exist in the community.”
Sandra, a resident from Croxteth said: “I had a great day;
the dancing was fantastic and it was nice to try all the different
types of food.”
