Home, one of the largest affordable housing providers in the UK, recently teamed up with Croydon Council to organise a huge event - Connection Day - for residents at Cudham Drive.

This was the first major community day to be held on the estate for over a year. Home manages 184 properties at Cudham Drive estate, and despite the rain, the event attracted a big turn out.

Activities provided included: a visit from The Worshipful Mayor of Croydon,

Councillor Robert Askey, a steel band and BBQ, bicycle training, a football ‘shoot out’, ‘Super Sumo’ (for over 16’s), face painting, bouncy castle, bouncy octopus (for under fives), garden games, a fresh fruit stall, ice cream and other refreshments – all free! Plus staff from key local agencies were in attendance offering free information and advice, including: Home, Business Link, Business Venture, Community Police and contractors Connaught.

As Colin Lindsay, Housing Manager for Homes Croydon office explains: “We were all delighted with the fantastic turnout at one of the biggest community events to take place at Cudham Drive in a long time.

“The purpose of the event was to have a great time and for our residents to get to know each other. However, we also wanted to raise resident’s awareness of the local services provided by statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies. Access to these will help our residents to make informed decisions, on issues such as training, education, health, which can enhance the quality of their lives and the environment they live in.

“We had a number of residents help us organise activities for the event who also gave up their time to help on the day. We are delighted to see so much commitment shown from our customers. Their involvement has made the planning process much smoother as well as being a joint effort.”
