Baxi Group has won a prestigious contract to supply domestic boilers for a further three years for the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) rolling programme of refurbishment of service families’ properties.
During 2008/09, £7.8 million has been allocated to upgrade heating systems at Service family estates across England and Wales. The work is being carried out by MODern Housing Solutions, contractors to Defence Estates Housing, Estate Management.
RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire, home to the internationally renowned Red Arrows, has had 132 new boilers installed in their service family quarters. “The heating systems in all the properties have been replaced,” explains Angharad Jones, Communications and Customer Care Manager for MODern Housing Solutions. “Old floor standing boilers have been taken out and replaced with neat, high efficiency wall hung boilers.
“In addition, thermostatic radiator valves have been installed throughout, so that the heating is easily controlled in each room, according to the needs of the family.” she comments.
Kim Frater is pleased with her new Baxi Solo boiler. “It
makes such a difference,” she says. “The boiler is so
compact, and gives out much more heat than the old one. And
it’s handy to be able to turn down the heating in rooms we
don’t use so much, which means we aren’t paying to heat
the whole house all the time.”
Squadron Leader Scott, Officer Commanding Base Support at RAF
Scampton said: "The general consensus is that it has been a well
handled, well executed programme. The contractors are welcome back
on base at any time. There has been good communication throughout
the programme."
During the first phase of the massive MOD tri-service refurbishment
project, approximately 6,000 boilers have already been replaced
with Baxi and Potterton boilers up to March 2009.
Angharad Jones continues: “Baxi Group has provided training, both on-site and at its training centres, for our heating engineers. This includes extensive installation and commissioning training, as well as service and maintenance, so our engineers can provide a quick response for occupants. And there’s always technical support at the end of the telephone if needed.
“It is our mission to provide the families of service men and women with the most energy efficient homes that we can, and the new boilers are among the most energy efficient models available on the market.”
