At a time when pensioners and families are feeling the pinch, a number of residents of Axiom Housing Association will benefit from a 'one year price freeze' on their energy costs in their service charges from April this year.

Last year saw steep increases in gas and electricity charges. Axiom, when setting its budgets, decided not to pass on these increases as a service charge to 540 households that have their heating supplied through them as their landlord.

In taking this decision, Axiom has taken into account that, like all other social landlords across Peterborough and beyond, rent increases for next year will be based on 5.5% inflationary guidelines set by the government, and that the most vulnerable tenants and residents need a helping hand during the economic downturn.

The 'one off' freeze to their gas and electric charges will save residents an average of £133 over the next year.

Chris Wood, Sheltered Residents from Charlton Court in Longthorpe, Peterborough said:

"I can't quite believe how much utility costs have gone up; we would be facing a 60% increase in our gas and electricity costs next year".

"I'm really pleased that Axiom has recognised this and has given residents a 'year off' from service charge increases on gas and electricity costs".

Alan Lewin, Axiom Chief Executive, added:

"It is important that during these difficult times we do everything we can to help our residents. Our Welfare Advisor, Angie Noble, is also on hand to help residents with any financial concerns they may have".
