Papworth Trust Care and Repair is giving away more than 200 of the alarms.
The initiative follows the successful bid for £4,100.00 from the Community Gifts awards, an annual scheme organised in partnership by Barclaycard and the Northampton Evening Telegraph, the
Chronicle and Echo.
The funds will be used to purchase 230 carbon monoxide testers for existing clients of Papworth Trust Care and Repair. Johan Gallagher, operations manager, says: "The Evening Telegraph, Chronicle
and Echo are helping us to save people's lives. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer - you cannot see it or smell it." She continues, "We bid for the money for the alarms because it really is
essential for people to have them - and we want to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide."
The alarms will be distributed to some of the existing clients, and potentially new clients as well. "When they contact us, we will be asking them a few questions to see if there are any other ways
in which we can help them," says Johan.
Papworth Trust Care and Repair works with clients in Kettering and Corby who are elderly, have a disability or are on a low income and carries out repairs and improvements to ensure that their
clients remain safe and warm in their own home.
