Axiom Housing Association supports Peterborough City Council, along with its partner agencies, to carry out a count of people sleeping rough in the Peterborough area.

Every Local Authority MUST keep a record of the number of people sleeping rough and the reasons why this is happening.

Peterborough City Council organises a count every six months, ensuring that we are aware of numbers sleeping rough and can be proactive about finding a solution.

Axiom's Supported Housing Project, FAIR VIEW COURT on Oundle Road in Peterborough, hosted the cities Sleeper Count on 9 December.

The rough sleeper count is a great way of getting homeless people off the cold streets and into shelter - even if it's for only one night. Axiom is committed to raising funds through its very own charity, Axiom Homeless Action, and working with its partners in order to deliver a range of practical measurers aimed at assisting homeless people to re-build their lives.

Something as simple as contributing to the rough sleeper count can make a massive difference to people who find themselves sleeping rough, very often through no fault of their own.

Fay Moore, Project Manager at Fair View Court, said:

"I was very pleased to see the amount of volunteers that arrived to take part in the count; representatives from many agencies, including Peterborough City Council, St Theresa's and the Police supported the event".

"A total of 11 rough sleepers were found on the night, all of which were offered accommodation, part funded by Axiom Homeless Action".

Pat Gracey, Operations Manager of Axiom Homeless Action, added:

"We decided to get behind this event, offering a bed for the night to the rough sleepers who were found. We are already at the forefront of homelessness in the city and this is the third count we have assisted with funding."

"Our charity is committed to working with its partners and agencies to support those vulnerable people who find themselves homeless especially at this time of year".
If you would like to learn more about Axiom Homeless Action or donate money or time to the charity please contact Pat Gracey on 01733 347135.

Axiom Homeless Action exists to benefit homeless people - whoever they may be - and includes the most disadvantaged, marginalised and vulnerable; it does so by bringing together a team of supporters, donors and partners, all focused on improving conditions and opportunities, Axiom Homeless Action.
